Northport VAMC - Proposed Transitional Homeless / “ Assisted Living Facility
”
Date: Tentatively scheduled for April 8th at 7:00 pm
Place: Building # 5 – Northport VA Auditorium
The Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) is proceeding with a
feasibility study for the development of a ” Transitional Homeless /
Assisted Living Facility “ on a 20.67 acre parcel of veteran owned land at
its Northport location thru the use of a EUL or Extended Use Lease. The
proposed housing project would offer preference to eligible military
veterans and their spouses and could serve homeless veterans and their
families. Non Veterans may also qualify for the housing. The proposal is in
the planning stage according to Philip Weisbroat, the facility planner.
Prior to creating the full scale plan, the VAMC would like feedback from the
community, local Veterans organizations and political leaders.
The Fort Salonga Civic Association invited the VAMC Facility Planner, Mr.
Philip Weisbrout and the VAMC Public Affairs Administrator, Mr. Joseph
Sledge to our February 09th Board meeting to discuss the plan. According to
the VAMC representatives, a maximum of 200 housing units are being
considered. An RFP (Request for Proposal) should be posted on the VA website
by mid March 2010. Information related to this proposal can be found (once
posted by VA) at the following VA websites:
