The Fort Salonga Association Annual Brunch 2024
There is one event that the Fort Salonga Association hosts every year that is geared specifically towards you, the adults in the room. Our Annual Brunch will be held this year on April 21 at the Indian Hills Country Club at 10:00am. Our keynote speaker will be Supervisor Ed Smyth from the Town of Huntington.
Callahan's Beach Closure
Last fall, during a nor'easter, the steps leading from the parking lot down to the beach were washed out. Since then the Town of Smithtown has closed the beach, as well as the balance of the town park. Fortunately, earlier this year the town granted the Fort Salonga Association special permission to hold our annual Egg Hunt there, utilizing only the parking lot and picnic areas.
As of mid-July the Town of Smithtown still had not put out to bid for necessary repairs and step replacement. This means in effect that our beach and entire park area will be closed at least through the summer months and until further notice (next summer???).
UPDATE 8/9/22: Callahans is a much bigger project than most think – bids are out and its looking to be a $2-3 million dollar job. Town's plan is to have the beach access completed and done by Spring 2023. Without the stairs its been a safety hazard and they have had to worry about teenagers getting injured while trying to climb / scale / jump off the area.
FSA Newsletter returning
Last year the Fort Salonga Board of Directors felt it was time to move into the digital age and announced that we would be curtailing our paper newsletter. To our disappointment, the readership on the website is not what we had hoped for and in June decided to return to mailing the newsletter. The first new addition will be around September 1, 2022 and will be published 3-4 times a year. All households in Fort Salonga (with the exception of those having P.O. Boxes) will receive the newsletter mailings as well as the annual membership renewal / application forms.
